Advertising Standards

A regulator is a body that is not part of the government but will follow governments guidance or laws. there is a regulator for TV and radio (Ofcom), for newspapers and maga zines (IPSO)...for schools(Ofsted) for energy companies etc.

Each have different amounts of power. Sometimes they are there to deal with or investigate complaints from the public.sometimes they can issue fines, bans or warnings.

The key advertising rules state that:

adsmust not mislead

claims should be supported with evidence

advertisers should deal honestly and truthfully with consumers

ads should not offend* what's the problem with this one?

ads should be responsible

the rules reflect legal requirements, but also contain additional protections for children and for certain products such as alcohol, food, health and beauty and gambling.

When making my advert I will make sure it complies with the Advertising Standards Authority's guidelines by:
Making sure my advert is not misleading and clearly states it is promoting and the claims made in my advert will be supported by evidence. I will make sure it is not offensive and will be responsible. I will also make sure to comply with additional protections.
